What to Do Once You're There

Snorkeling at Mnemba Island is non-negotiable. A full day boat trip, dolphins, coral reef, lunch on the water — from $58. Most people call it the best day of their trip.

Stone Town is half a day. Walk the narrow alleys with a local guide from $25. UNESCO World Heritage Site, spice markets, the old slave market site. Book a private walking tour — the guided version is worth every dollar.

The Spice Tour runs $35 and takes about three hours. You smell everything before you see it. Vanilla, clove, cinnamon growing out of the ground. Stop at a local lunch after. Add Jozani Forest (red colobus monkeys only found here) and Kuza Cave in the same day — combined tours run $105 and finish at The Rock Restaurant, which is exactly what it sounds like: a restaurant built on a rock in the ocean.

For the quad bikes: Nungwi to Kendwa, four hours through beach villages and coastal paths. From $67 for two people. Do it at sunset.

Shopping: Stone Town's Darajani Market for saffron, dried spices, and local fabric. Forodhani Gardens night market for street food — Zanzibar pizza (not what you think) and fresh-grilled seafood for under $5 a plate.

How to Book It

Step 1: Lock the flight on Skyscanner — set the dates to Aug 25 – Sep 1, select Emirates for the best price. The $1,330 fare disappears fast.

Step 2: Book the hotel directly through the resort website or via Skyscanner Hotels to compare live rates.

Step 3: Book Mnemba Island snorkeling and Stone Town tours through TripAdvisor Experiences — pay after you arrive or reserve ahead. Most tours fill up in high season.
